A popular commentary on today’s gospel reading, John 2:12-22 (25), is that of Jesus entering the temple and horrified at the scene taking place in his Father’s house (selling goods and trading, effectively reducing the holy space to a marketplace) overturns the trader’s tables demanding everyone to leave, thus “cleansing” the temple of its immoral practices. However, a deeper look reveals just how telling this passage is. Jesus says at the time that he will raise the temple up in three days after it’s been destroyed. His disciples don’t realize that his body is the temple, his crucifixion on the cross is the destruction, and that his resurrection from the dead is the building of the temple back up in three days. It’s not only until after his death that they make this connection; and we see now that what is said in scripture does come true. God fulfills his promises to us in due time, just like Jesus made evident in today’s reading. He is faithful and steadfast to us no matter our circumstances. Take some time today and reflect how God’s timing might be working its way on you. What is He revealing to you in the quiet moments if you listen and are patient? We’d love to hear what you’ve uncovered and how you can transform that this week to #livemysunday
