Sunday 2/7/21
What a simple statement and yet how powerful? In this weekend’s Gospel passage, Mark 1:29-39, Jesus is completing his first acts of healing. His very first restoration of health is to the mother-in-law of one of his first disciples, Simon. We must not overlook the fact that he first heals a woman, who in those times were seen as the lowliest of society. Jesus then literally reaches out to this woman with the touch of his hand, another remarkable gesture for the time. Not only would a man not touch a woman not of his own family, but also, it was just as taboo to touch a sickly person. In this moment, Jesus is a model to us all in his compassion for others. Yes, he came to do great things and make miracles happen, but through this we can learn how we are called to serve others and to show our empathy for those less fortunate. This week, how can you show compassion to others who may need it? Share on social media and tell us how you plan to #livemysunday
